It is worth being straight about what that does and does not achieve: detectors score how predictable a passage is, so a good rewrite usually reads as human, and no tool can promise it always will. AI detectors do not recognise authorship. They cannot — there is no watermark in ordinary model output. What they measure is statistical: how closely each word follows the word a language model would have chosen. The technical terms are perplexity (how surprising the text is) and burstiness (how much sentence length and complexity vary).
Model output scores low on both. It is smooth, evenly paced, and uses the expected word. Human writing is lumpier — a long qualifying sentence, then a short flat one. Then a fragment.
So a detection remover raises variance. It rewrites at sentence level, changes lengths deliberately, replaces stock constructions, and cuts hedging. The output reads less evenly, which is the point.
Two consequences follow, and both matter. Rewritten text generally scores as human-written. And detectors regularly flag genuine human writing that happens to be very consistent — technical documentation, legal boilerplate, and text by non-native English speakers are all disproportionately caught. A detector result is evidence, not proof, and any institution treating it as proof is misusing it.
A practical note on expectations: run the text once, read it properly, and change anything that still reads as machine-made. The single pass plus your own edit outperforms three automated passes, which tend to drift from your meaning while flattening the writing. If a sentence still feels off after the rewrite, rewrite that sentence yourself — the parts you touch are the parts that most reliably read as yours, which is the whole objective.

People arrive here for quite different reasons, and they are worth separating.
Voice. The commonest case. A marketer drafts with AI and needs the result to sound like the brand rather than like an assistant. Detection is irrelevant; the rewrite is an editing step.
False positives. Someone wrote something themselves, a detector flagged it, and they need it to stop reading as machine-like. This happens more than most people expect, particularly to non-native speakers whose English is careful and even.
Publishing quality. Search engines do not penalise AI-assisted content as such — Google's guidance targets unhelpful content however it was produced. But obviously templated writing does not earn links or repeat readers, so the rewrite is doing editorial work regardless of any algorithm.
Coursework. Here the honest answer is uncomfortable: if your institution prohibits AI assistance, rewriting the output does not make its use permitted, and we would rather say so than sell you a guarantee. Use the tool on work that is yours.

How detection actually behaves
Detector accuracy is far lower than the marketing suggests, in both directions, and understanding why saves a lot of anxiety.
A detector sees only the text. It has no access to a document's edit history, no watermark to read, no record of what produced it. So it estimates: does this read like the statistically likely continuation of itself? Text that does gets flagged.
That produces two predictable failures. Careful, plain, consistent human writing gets flagged, which is why non-native English speakers and technical writers are caught disproportionately — writing simply and evenly is exactly what the score punishes. And edited machine text passes, because a few human revisions are enough to raise the variance the detector is measuring.
The practical consequences:
If you have been flagged unfairly, rewriting for variation genuinely helps, and so does keeping drafts and version history as evidence of your process.
If you are publishing, detector scores are not a ranking factor. Google has said repeatedly that it judges content by usefulness, not by how it was produced. Write something worth reading and the score stops mattering.
If you are submitting work under a no-AI policy, no rewriting tool makes that compliant. We would rather lose the sale than pretend otherwise.
Used as an editing step on your own material, a detection remover does something straightforward and useful: it makes flat text read less flatly.
